Laundry is one of those mundane tasks that nobody wants to do, but yet it has to be done. So when you hear “organize your small laundry room” – maybe you’re cringing at the thought. Or maybe you’re one of the ones that is excited to finally put the reigns on the space that if only it were organized, life would be easier. That’s how I felt and I’m going to tell you how I organized my laundry room in one day. Well, 2 days if we’re including prime deliveries. Read below to find out how.
Organizing a laundry room is easier than it looks. I know, you’re probably thinking its going to be frustrating, but trust me – it’s not. I JUST finished completing this laundry room makeover and organizing my small laundry room was actually quite relaxing.
The first thing I did was removed everything from the laundry room cabinets. I then sorted everything into piles. There was some stuff that could be consolidated so I did that. There was also some things I no longer needed, so I got rid of it. The key to being organized is also knowing when to let stuff go. I actually talked more about this in this other organization post here.
I knew I needed certain supplies to be stored in the cabinets, so I drew out what containers I would need onto a piece of paper. This would help me consolidate easily.
You can see what I’m talking about in this video here where I show the full process of how to organize a small laundry room.
Drawing it out, helped me to figure out exactly how many clear acrylic drawers to order as well as how many laundry detergent bottles I would need to keep my laundry cabinets organized forever. For the bleach jug, I only needed one.
P.s. – this is currently my favorite organized cabinet in my house. And everyone who sees it, loves it.
When it comes to organizing any room, we have to remember that not all houses are not built with the same layout specs, so each room will be different. Also not everyone uses the same products. In my house, my powder room is just off of the laundry room, so storing cleaning supplies in my small laundry room was a must for me. So, I organized my cabinet based on my own needs and what makes sense for my home.
Another thing to mention is what to store on the countertop. I am in love with functional storage, so I ordered glass containers for the countertop for oxi-clean and scent boosters. I also used one hyacinth basket to store monogrammed hand towels for my powder room. I mentioned above that my powder room is just off from my laundry room. These small decorative elements add a home decor touch, but is still functional. It also helps me by being easily accessible.
Another thing I did was remove the large laundry baskets that was sitting on top of the laundry table and replaced it with a collapsible laundry basket. This helped to save lots of space and keeps my small laundry room organized. You can see the collapsible basket on the side of the dryer.
