When I designed this toddler bedroom makeover, I knew I wanted some sort of reading nook in the space. After traveling down the rabbit of hole of extravagant reading nooks for kids, I kept coming up short. Either it did not work for the space in my home, or the project would take too long to complete.

For this nursery to preschool room, I didn’t really want a huge project. I wanted something quick, easy, but nice for my toddler-aged son to reach and read books! Here’s what to do for a quick and easy reading nook!

DIY Name Sign for Reading Nook

I used my Cricut to create the DIY name sign that reads “Arie’s book nook.” You can watch how I created it in this video here. This is removable vinyl, that can be swapped out at anytime.

Use Ottomans for a Reading Nook

I added two ottoman poufs for seating in this reading nook area. In this area, I decided to have small round ottomans because they fit better by the window. They were easy to just open out of the package and place in the room. I didn’t have to assemble anything and worry about hard edges in this toddler bedroom. The ottomans give a simple coziness to the book nook area!

Use Clear Acrylic Shelves for Books

For the book shelf, I used clear acrylic shelving that I purchased here. The clear acrylic shelves allow the room to feel more open, rather than cluttered by using bulky shelving. The shelves are 15″ long, I lined them up side by side so the shelves could appear longer. This is perfect for a toddler room in order to not worry about sharp edges or heavy shelving.

This easy DIY reading nook was extremely simple to put together. I was able to complete this part of the room makeover in one day!
